The rapid commercialisation of CBCT technology dedicated to the maxillofacial region is expanding access to this imaging modality for both general practitioners and specialists. CBCT delivers accurate, submillimetre-resolution images that allow full 3D visualisation of the region's anatomical complexity.
Looking ahead, enhancements are expected in shorter scan times, multimodal imaging (combining panoramic, cephalometric and CBCT views), improved soft-tissue contrast, and task-specific dose-reduction protocols. As access grows, CBCT is extending maxillofacial imaging beyond diagnosis into image-guided operative and surgical care.
